Turn past orders into subscriptions

Customers who bought a subscribable product one-time are the likeliest to subscribe. This offer meets them in their account: on their order list and on the order itself, they can turn a past order into a subscription with one click.

Turn it on

The offer is on by default. To switch it off, go to Settings → Subscription Features in the Zubs app and turn off Turn Orders into Subscriptions.

Where customers see it

Orders page. Below the upcoming-order card, the offer names the newest of the customer's last three orders that can become a subscription — for example Turn Vitamin D3 from order #1099 into a subscription and save at least 20% with every order. It shows wherever the Customer Orders Banner block is placed. To add it, go to Settings → Checkout → Customize, open the Orders page, choose Add app block and pick Customer Orders Banner.

Order status page. Inside the order summary, between the products and the totals. If it doesn't show, open the Order status page in the same editor and add the Customer Orders Banner app block to the order summary. On mobile, Shopify collapses the order summary, so customers see the offer once they expand it.

What happens when they accept

Create subscription puts the order's eligible products in the cart on a subscription plan and goes straight to checkout. Shopify creates the subscription once they pay. Each product uses the frequency you marked as the default for its plan group, or the group's first plan when none is marked. Anything already in the customer's cart comes along to checkout too.

The saving in the message is the lowest discount among the products being converted, so at least always holds. When none of the plans carries a discount, the message leaves the saving out.

When the offer doesn't appear

  • The order already started a subscription, or was cancelled.
  • No product in it has a pay-as-you-go plan. Prepaid plans are never offered.
  • The customer already subscribes to every product in the order.
  • The product is inactive, sold out, or was free in that order.
  • Build-a-box shell products (tagged zubs-main-product), and products carrying your cart offer's opt-out product tag (default zubs-no-cart-offer) — the same tag opts a product out of both offers.
  • The setting is off.

On the orders page only the three most recent orders are considered, so a qualifying order further back isn't offered there — it still shows on its own order status page.
